A no-death, no-bomb run of Touhou 8 Imperishable Night Stage 6A on Lunatic difficulty, capturing all spellcards. The player describes how Eirin's dense, crisscrossing patterns work and how to manipulate the bosses' positioning.

Why Hacker News points people here: HN uses it as a showcase of what skilled bullet hell play looks like, with dense patterns dodged through a tiny hitbox rather than luck.

Shows dense bullet patterns requiring a tiny hitbox

Nah, it's actually an explicit conceit in danmaku games (the style described by GP). In Touhou, when you press shift to move slowly, it shows your hitbox as that single point. There's no point in hiding it from the player, because there is no way to even survive if the hitbox weren't a single point. There are often only a few pixels of clearance in between the waves of bullets. Consider this: this video EDIT: Or this, link At the end, you can really see the boss's frustration with the player as the beautifully ordered patterns devolve into an angry display of brute force as she throws every kind of bullet in the game at you at once.

It's not though? It's a music video for a 100% safe for work video game where small sprites of witches and yokai (supernatural entities/spirits) play what is in effect a much more complicated version of space invaders. There is nothing even remotely close to sexual or NSFW in it. this video

Skilled play shows bullet hell is learnable, not luck

> you just have to get lucky. You can definitely learn and not have to rely on luck - watch a video of someone good playing a bullet hell shooter[0] and getting a perfect score with no hits. There is not a world that exists in which you could accomplish that with luck. [0] Touhou is probably the definitive example here. Something like this video
