Area 5150 by CRTC & Hornet (Party Version) / IBM PC+CGA Demo, Hardware Capture

69K views · Aug 14, 2022 · 10:12 · 2 HN recommenders · 5 mentions · discussed 2022–2024

Area 5150 is a demoscene production for the original 4.77MHz IBM PC with CGA graphics and PC speaker. This is the Evoke 2022 party version, captured from real hardware, and it won the Alternative Demo compo.

Why Hacker News points people here: HN treats it as a showcase of what clever tricks can squeeze out of 1981 hardware, and the sequel to 8088 MPH.

“the sequel is Area 5150”

It's about an emulator being able to run the very impressive 8088MPH "demo", which uses a bunch of hardware tricks to pull off stuff you wouldn't expect a 4.77mhz/640kb RAM/4 colour/PC speaker could do. link the sequel is Area 5150 this video
