Louis Rossmann argues that reballing flip-chip GPUs is not a real fix for dead laptop GPUs. He explains why such repairs and oven reflow tricks fail and what is actually happening with failing hardware.
Why Hacker News points people here: HN people cite it to debunk oven-reflow and reballing repair folklore, and as part of Rossmann's critiques of Apple hardware quality.

Rossmann argues oven reflow and reballing GPUs is a bad idea
Has anyone watched Louis Rossman's video series on this topic? It's pretty funny. He thinks oven reflows are a bad idea. Reballing flip chip GPUs is BULLSHIT - the truth about dead laptop GPUs & repairing them. - this video Luckily, he also shows the proper way to do it: Linus Attempts BGA Graphics Chip Repair! - link
“The above technique is a myth”
Debunks the oven reflow technique as a myth
The above technique is a myth . See this video . Trying to randomly unsolder and put back resistors or other components when you don’t know what the error is is another bad idea. The author should have tried to actually attempt to fix the logic board first. But before all that he should have inspected the board and use a voltmeter to see what the issue is. But even doing that he might need a replacement part.

Yes. How many do you want? Here, he said that Apple puts a chip to break MacBooks after 3 years. this video Here, he says that "Apple" (actually a Customs office) sent a letter to him to pay for batteries that were legitimate, later, on Reddit, he admitted he bought fake batteries from China that had Apple logos (and therefore, should be, as they did) caught by the customs (because saying otherwise would get him in jail), his friends at Reddit, deleted the comments, but there are still copies of what he said: link Also, in his video, he says that Apple makes products "vintage" or "obsolete" after 4 or 5 years. The newest "vintage" Apple product in late 2018, is from 2011: link
