Ben Eater finishes building a minimal VGA video card from logic circuits. He explains analog RGB signals, stores an image in an EEPROM and builds a simple digital-to-analog converter to display it.
Why Hacker News points people here: Recommended as an accessible, educational build that anyone with basic logic knowledge can follow.

Not the same thing, but you reminded me of this since it's in a similar vein. Ben Eater went through the entire process of building a VGA "video card." Anyone with a basic understanding of logic circuits has enough background to understand it. Worth a watch. Part 1: link Part 2: this video

If you're a visual learner, check out Ben Eater's channel: link He has a really great video series where he builds a small computer from scratch on breadboards. Also some other highlights: Reliable data transmission, more educational: link DIY VGA "video card": this video Super educational, but if you want to get into more embedded hardware hacking, I would say that building a homemade computer like he does is probably not a super exciting place to start. I'd recommend picking up some Teensy 4.0 microcontrollers and build some small hardware projects with the microcontroller before diving into lower-level circuitry.

At 3:00 into the second video, he talks about hooking it into a computer. [1] It does a quick flash to what might be his breadboard computer. So I think he intends to connect this to the computer he has built. 1. this video
