Mark Rober builds a third-generation glitter bomb trap and films it catching package thieves, with phone trackers and fart spray included. It shows the engineering behind the build and the comic payoff.
Why Hacker News points people here: Cited in porch-pirate threads as the definitive revenge-engineering project, praised for its impressive engineering.

“the engineering is seriously impressive”
Impressive engineering and humor in the third glitter bomb
Rober just put out a new video with version 3.0 of his Glitter Bomb, and the engineering is seriously impressive. I’m sure he gets lots of help on his projects from others at this point, but I still have a lot of admiration for this guy. The video is pretty funny, too! this video

Series tracking fake packages with phones and fart spray
I you are in an apartment get with your neighbors and perhaps set up some cameras. If its an inside job, you'll have to deal with this neighbor. Its not super likely the Police are going to get greatly involved. When I had a situation where I had trouble getting packages I got a mailbox-etc mailbox where the package were dropped off at the store and I could pick them up (now the UPS Store). There is a youtube series were someone leaves fake packages with fart spray and multiple cell phones to track the packages. They're using cell phones gps to track down the packages. These people can be dangerous (one package seems to be destroyed by gun shots...) so I'm not sure confronting them on your own is a great idea. this video

This makes me think back to Mark Rober's porch pirate glitter bomb bit with the fart spray. I can still hear the sound it makes. this video
