Stephen Wolfram gives a 13-minute tour of the Wolfram Language, a symbolic, functional programming language with a built-in knowledgebase. He demos querying large datasets, interactivity and deployment.
Why Hacker News points people here: Commenters point to it as a compact, impressive demo of what the language can do.
“A good example of coding demos is Stephen Wolfram introducing the Wolfram language [1]. 12:55 minutes of pure ecstasy :D”
Exemplary short coding demo of the Wolfram language

This was no where near as painful as some talks I've seen, where the speaker is programming. Like running of time, and only being half way through the talk. Live coding definitely slows down the momentum. A good example of coding demos is Stephen Wolfram introducing the Wolfram language [1]. 12:55 minutes of pure ecstasy :D [1] this video

“The demos are all pretty impressive”
Stephen Wolfram's intro video with impressive demos of the language.

For some background on the language, check out Stephen Wolfram's intro video: this video The demos are all pretty impressive, and putting aside the breathless marketing of the programming cloud page, this looks awesome.

Stephen Wolfram's demo he referred to doesn't appear to be up yet, but this one from a couple weeks back is pretty sweet: this video

> tl;dr: The Wolfram Language is an ok 30-year-old language I don't think it is just 'OK'. It is lispy, with a HEAVY emphasis on symbolic computation. I have yet to see anything even remotely similar to it. EDIT: There's also the visualization aspect. Things like Jupyter (formerly iPython) come close, but still can't do things like render video. If you don't want to read the article, there's this video: this video (initial ego trip skipped) (Another edit: fix typo)

“after seeing all the stuff demoed in the screencast they put out”
Screencast demoing many capabilities of the Wolfram Language
Full comment
A report from the International Language-Level Assessment Body. Seriously though, it doesn't seem too far-fetched a claim after seeing all the stuff demoed in the screencast they put out: this video Getting pedantic, I suppose there's a distinction between the language in isolation and with its stdlib/environment.

There's only so much we can do before those products are released. The Programming Cloud will go live in the next few weeks, along with executable examples on various language and marketing pages. For more information about the language, check out link , as well as this video

“You can get an idea of what this is like in Mathematic by watching Wolfram's demo”
Shows what the Mathematica notebook interface is like

It's basically an attempt to bring the user interface of Mathematica or MATLAB (the "notebook") to the Python world. You can get an idea of what this is like in Mathematic by watching Wolfram's demo: this video
