Scott Manley tries a Space Shuttle Return To Launch Site abort in the Orbiter simulator without manuals or checklists. He explains how the maneuver works and where his attempt went wrong.
Why Hacker News points people here: HN links it to illustrate how the shuttle's never-flown RTLS abort profile would work.

Yeah, the major complication with the STS RTLS option is that the Shuttle had to keep the external fuel tank until after the return burn was completed (since the shuttle itself carried no propellant for the main engines). Scott Manley did a video a few years back explaining how this return profile works (and attempting to fly it in Orbiter) this video

This reminds me an old video by Scott Manley of an abort procedure of the Space Shuttle that never was tried in real life. (He used a model in the Kerbal Space Program.) " Space Shuttle RTLS Abort Challenge - Without The Manual " this video
