Adam Curtis's 2016 BBC documentary arguing that politicians, financiers and technologists retreated into a simplified, fake version of the world because reality became too complex. It ranges across Trump, Brexit, Syria, Surkov's Russia and more.

Why Hacker News points people here: HN points to it for its account of propaganda that sows distrust and confusion, and as a starting point for Adam Curtis's work.

What this means is that corporate strategies such as running government like a business are eroding democracy globally. Where is this all going? Labor compensation diverged from productivity in the 1970s when global industrial capacity and energy production could no longer keep pace with the rising cost of the Cold War - aka the guns vs butter model
